Tony Max is a local Vancouver resident that has been painting for a number of years. As a child he was born legally blind. It wasn't till his teens that he underwent cataract surgery to improve his sight. He still remains visually impaired, but doesn't let that stop him from his passion for art.
Tony Max had studied fine arts in his home city of London, Ontario. He had dropped out after one year, realizing he had no wish to create modern art that the school had encouraged. He then moved to Toronto and enrolled in the journalism program at Ryerson University, where he continued to paint in his spare time. It was then that he had his first art show at the now defunct Del Bello Gallery in Toronto. After graduating he became a journalist for some time also working in many other fields as illustrator, Web site design, and graphic artist. In 1996 Tony Max opened up his own business as a communicator but had to quit in 2002 as his art work had become increasingly in demand.
Most of Tony's work is of the beautiful coast of British Columbia. He has dabbled in many mediums but has preferred water soluble oils to any other for its bright colours and low toxicity.
